FAQ

1. Where are you based?

County Limerick, Ireland.

2. What are "Fancy" Mice?

Fancy mice are domesticated varieties of the common house mouse (Mus musculus) that have been selectively bred for their friendly temperament, varied colors, and interesting coat patterns. They make excellent pets due to their sociable nature and playful behavior.

3. How many mice should I adopt?

Fancy mice are social creatures and thrive in companionship. It is recommended to adopt at least two mice, especially females, as they benefit from living in groups. Here at Squeak Peak, we selectively breed our male mice so they can be kept together peacefully. We rehome a minimum of three female mice to ensure they have the social interaction they need to thrive.

4. What is the lifespan of fancy mice?

Fancy mice generally live for about 2 to 3 years. You can ensure your mouse lives a long life with proper care, nutrition, and a healthy environment.

5. Do you offer any support after adoption?

Absolutely! We provide ongoing support for all adopters. If you have questions or concerns about your new mouse, feel free to reach out to us at any time.

6. Are mice good pets for children?

Yes and no. Under close supervision, mice can be fantastic pets for children. They are sociable creatures that enjoy being handled and can even learn tricks and respond to their names. Their cages are easy to clean, and once set up, they are relatively inexpensive to maintain. Although every animal is capable of biting, it's very unlikely that your fancy mouse will bite you or your child.

However, it's essential for parents to take responsibility and be committed to caring for the mice, including covering any potential vet bills. Primary responsibility for the mice should fall on the adults, ensuring a safe and caring environment for these little companions.

7. Do you take in surrenders/emergency intakes/accidental litters?

Yes, we do. If you're unable to care for your mouse or mice for any reason, or if you have a pregnant mouse or an accidental litter, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here to support you however I can—always without judgment. If your mouse is pregnant, I do recommend surrendering her to our care before she gives birth, as complications can sometimes arise during birth or while raising a litter. We can provide her with the appropriate care and access to emergency vet support if needed.

8. Can I visit the mousery to see the mice before adopting?

For the safety and comfort of our mice, visits are limited and arranged by appointment. If you'd like to see the available mice, please reach out, and I can arrange photos or a virtual viewing.

9. Can I return a mouse if I'm unable to keep it?

Yes, I always welcome back any mouse previously adopted if you're unable to care for it. My top priority is ensuring each mouse has a safe, stable environment.
